DEBUT LIT is a national arts event series dedicated to helping new writers gain a wider audience. DEBUT LIT’s launch events celebrate the release of new literary works by first time authors with a party, reading and booksigning, and incorporate visual art, music or film.
DEBUT LIT’s also hosts authors showcases, raucus evenings with multiple writers reading two page original work inspired by a provocative phrase or quote, and bookstore reading afterparties for touring authors.
DEBUT LIT believes that new work deserves a new idea, and literature can come alive in ways it never has before.

HISTORY
DEBUT LIT began in 2007 when Rebekah Anderson and Maaza Mengiste learned a mutual friend was about to be published by a major New York publishing house. Having already collaborated on the popular “Flashers” series in New York City, the two put their talents to work promoting their friend’s debut novel. Since then, DEBUT LIT has promoted many first (and sometimes second) time book authors at events in Seattle, San Francisco and New York. DEBUT LIT is now headed by Rebekah Anderson with help from college interns.
